Apprenticeships at CERN

CERN trains apprentices in three areas of mechatronics—electronics, mechanics, and physics- as well as in the field of information and documentation.

Upon joining our organization, apprentices are mentored by a team of experienced professionals.

CERN offers:

  • A work environment unlike any other in the world
  • A multicultural atmosphere
  • State-of-the-art tools and facilities
  • Opportunities for additional training
  • An environment that prioritizes teamwork, safety, and training

Practical work at CERN is combined with theoretical studies at a technical school (in Geneva or Lausanne).

There are three technical apprenticeship programs at CERN and one in information science:

  • CFC Electronics Technician
  • CFC General Mechanic
  • CFC Physics Laboratory Technician
  • CFC Information and Documentation Assistant

After three or four years of training, the apprentice receives a federal vocational training diploma (Federal Certificate of Competence—CFC), with or without a vocational baccalaureate, which enables them to enter the workforce or pursue higher education.
